questions.
How do I book The Boathouse holiday cottage on Kerrera?
You can book directly through our website to secure the best rates for your stay. Simply choose your dates, and fill out our enquiry form on the contact us page. The Boathouse is a sought-after holiday rental in Scotland, so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
How do I get to Kerrera from Oban?
Kerrera is just a short ferry ride from Oban on Scotland’s west coast. The crossing takes only a few minutes, making it easy to reach your holiday cottage near Oban while still enjoying the tranquillity of a Scottish island escape. We’ll happily guide you through the journey – one of the benefits of staying with a small, family-run business that knows the island inside out.
Can I bring my car to the island?
Yes, you can, but the island has a single road which gets you from the south to the north. There are very few cars on the island because you don’t really need one, which adds to its peaceful charm. Guests can leave their cars in Oban and take the foot passenger ferry across. From the ferry, it’s a two-minute walk to reach The Boathouse, your cosy holiday cottage on a Scottish island. As a family-run property, we’re always on hand with advice and local tips to make your arrival smooth.
How many guests does The Boathouse sleep?
The Boathouse is suitable for a family or group of friends and sleeps up to eight guests in four bedrooms. Whether you’re booking a special occasion or simply looking for a peaceful holiday rental in Scotland, it’s the perfect island retreat for couples, families and friends. Being family-run, we’ve created a space that feels warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed.
Is The Boathouse family-friendly or suitable for children?
Yes! The Boathouse can be enjoyed by families with children who are looking for a unique island adventure. While the cottage is compact and best suited for smaller groups, Kerrera itself is a wonderful playground for young explorers. Children can enjoy spotting seals and otters along the shore, visiting the ruins of Gylen Castle, walking or cycling the island’s quiet trails, and discovering local wildlife.
Are pets allowed at The Boathouse?
Yes – pets may be allowed at The Boathouse, but by prior arrangement only. As the cottage is close to the marina and surrounded by farm animals, we need to ensure the environment remains calm, safe, and respectful for both wildlife and livestock. Please contact us before booking if you would like to bring a pet, and we’ll be happy to discuss whether it’s possible for your stay.
What facilities does The Boathouse offer?
The Boathouse is a fully equipped self-catering holiday cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a kitchen, heating, bed linen, and towels. There is also an outdoor space where you can relax and enjoy stunning sea views. As a family-run property, every detail has been chosen with care to make your stay feel special.
Are there shops or restaurants on Kerrera?
Kerrera is a peaceful island with limited facilities. We recommend bringing groceries from Oban before you arrive at your holiday cottage on Kerrera. There is also a café on the island that opens seasonally, called the Teahouse, popular with walkers exploring the trails. We also have the Waypoint, which is our bar and restaurant. Please check the Kerrera Marina website for more information on opening hours and menus.
What activities can I enjoy during my stay?
Kerrera offers beautiful walking and cycling trails, historic castle ruins, and incredible opportunities to spot wildlife such as seals, otters, and seabirds. Guests often combine their stay at our holiday cottage near Oban with yoga retreats, island hikes, or day trips to explore the Scottish Highlands. As a family-run retreat, we love sharing our favourite hidden spots and personal recommendations.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in at The Boathouse is from 3pm, and check-out is by 11am. Ferries to and from Oban run regularly throughout the day, making it easy to plan your journey to and from your Scottish holiday rental.
